In this ad, actresses/actors are pot raying as panelist to give their views on the gum. During the panel discussion, the Orbit spokes person listens to the panelist opinions. As the panelist are stating their opinion, they are literally using profanity that is being blocked out by words used by the Orbit's spokesperson. The interesting thing about this panel discussion is that a chid is used as a panelist and he also uses profanity that is blocked out. The theme for this ad seems to be, Orbit Gum is so good, that it will make you use profanity. This is inappropriate because children are watching these commercials and it can influence them to use profane language.
Doublemint Gum is gum produced by Wringly to also promote oral health. The purpose of the Doublemint Gum is to promote the use of their gum. Chris Brown is sponsored by this commercial by helping promote the gum. Chris Brown is a well-known R&B artist who is favored by young teens and adults. In this ad , the company uses Chris Brown's hit song to promote not only their gum but his song as well. When Chris Brown gets in a physical altercation with Pop singer Rihanna, the commercial is taken off the air. Its understandable that Wringly did not want someone who gained a bad name in the media to represent their company because their sales would decrease. However, no one's personal life should be incorporated into their work ethics.
Orbit and Doublemint are both under the Wringly company and it is understood they promote oral health. However, it is unfair to take one advertisement off air because it will receive negative attention when both advertisements have inappropriate meaning. Wringly is looking at the society views and what society think is right when they should be loyal to their company and the people who help promote their company.
